Audio quality option in preferences

Open n-ce opened this issue 3 years ago • 5 comments

The quality option for audio only streams is set to auto by default. Add an option in preferended to select between different bitrates which could instead be set as default. Helps : save data, low network speed users, power users wanting more control.

You don't have such an option on YouTube. (At least without premium)

The variable bitrates are 50kbps, 96kbps, 192kbps OPUS. 50kbps is best for playback under low network speed. 96kbps is balanced. 192kbps is good enough quality for youtube standard.

@FireMasterK I see O.o. I agree a setting would be swift sounding.

@n-ce 192kpbs is not bad. Excuse my audiophile expectation 😂

More bitrate always not equal to more fidelity. OPUS becomes transparent at as low as 32 kbps. Beyond that, you actually need high quality audio gear to find the difference.
