This bug only occurs when the screen is off? Not when it is on?

opusforlife2 avatar Jan 22 '23 15:01 opusforlife2

Did full testing. Here is results.

  1. Happens when screen is off. Direct turn off screen while using Newpipe. No other app in background.
  2. Also happens when you are on other app while screen is on. Have to switch back to Newpipe to normalise volume.
  3. Not happen when you are on Newpipe while screen is on.

Same here with Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, MIUI 13.0.13, Android 12. Is this probably Xiaomi MIUI related? I'm going to upgrade to MIUI 14 soon...

This bug drives me crazy since a long time now and I'm almost happy to find someone more has already reported here. In the beginning I was begging all other components like Bluetooth connection, Absolute volume, Poweramp equalizer, Soundcore headphone app, MIUI etc. until I noticed it's only affecting NewPipe playing background audio.

For me it happens when using a Bluetooth headphone and only when NewPipe is playing in the background while screen is switched off (most powerful feature for using NewPipe). Does this happen for you playing via internal speaker as well? As soon as some notification sound for some new incoming message is played, the volume is switched lower and does not reset as it usually does.

The workaround for me is even weird. Only switching on the screen does not help. I need to switch on, switch off, switch on again, then the volume is reset to normal. Sometimes after several minutes while NewPipe keeps playing in the back at low volume, the volume gets reset by whatever reason I don't know. It's not a new notification sound.

Redmi Note 10 MIUI 14 (Android 12). Yes this affects internal speakers too.

I'm suffering from the same issue. Im guessing it only affect us Xiaomi phone users only, consider I have

Xiaomi 12T Pro running Android 12, MIUI 13.

Devs please take a look at the compatibility issue with MIUI and Newpipe which cause this audio ducking issue.

Have same Problem with MIUI 13 with Android 12

This issue is annoying since I can remember and a blocker for background audio playback. It only affects Xiaomi devices with MIUI of any versions. The only annoying workaround, when the devices screen is off: Press power button 4 times, to switch on, off, and on again. Now volume is reset. Another press turns the screen off again. Gettings lots of notification and having the device turned off in the pocket, this will kill the power button soon.

There are many duplicates to this ticket, I'm going to try referencing all duplicates now..

Have you every tried reproducing or fixing this issue?

It might be something around the feature of "audio ducking for noticiations". This might be a system feature, but I can't find any option for that. Maybe https://github.com/TeamNewPipe/NewPipe/issues/5233 could help? Can't you add an option to disable ducking in NewPipe?

Tried this? : https://xdaforums.com/t/notifications-that-lower-music-and-media-sound-volume-in-silent-mode-miui-10.3861399/post-84595387

I am having this bug with OneUI 6.0 (Android 14 Galaxy A54), while using Maps or Waze

Unlocking the screen is not enough to restore the volume, I need to put the NewPipe app in foreground.

I tried to give full rights to newpipe to execute in the background with no luck. I haven't found any setting like the one @opusforlife2 mentioned, but again it's a Samsung and not Redmi

Currently doing some experiments to narrow down the issue

Adding to this thread that I have been experiencing this same issue on version 0.26 and 0.27 with my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra with OneUI 6 and Android 14 as well, so it's not isolated to Xiaomi phones.

My experiences are limited to bluetooth since my phone is usually on silent but:

  1. Play a video in the background to a bluetooth device (car, Android Auto, headphones, etc.)
    • Note: Most of the time I'm doing this I 'Share' the video from YouTube to NewPipe and select 'Start Playing in Background' from the quick select menu thing. Not sure if that could be part of the missing link here.
  2. Receive any kind of notification that includes a sound (call, text, Waze/Maps, etc.)
  3. Once the notification finishes, audio volume stays at the reduced level.

I haven't dug into it much more cuz killing the NewPipe process and starting it again fixes it. But I can confirm this is the only app I have that does this and I have numerous audio playing apps that I've used over the time frame I've experienced this bug (Blackplayer, Auxio, Finamp, Spotify, etc).

If I get time or the team would like, I could maybe do some debugging and see if I can narrow it down.
