Feature description
Checkboxes for different streams
- [X] Videos
- [X] Shorts
- [X] Live
Why do you want this feature?
I have a lot of channel subscription. And some of them are active streamers. Most of the time i only want to browse short duration videos on my subscription feed. And the amount of live streams both lives and archive usually make it a hassle to scroll down.

Dealing with channels that post a high number of videos really makes filtering a pretty basic feature.
Besides the suggested changes (long/short in particular being the most important IMO), being able to set up static (i.e. pre-configured) text filters for each channel would also do wonders to improve the situation.
Any news about this project? I am thankful for the whole newpipe team fo their work! I desperately need this function, even if only "the hide live streams" would work like "upcoming videos" filter.
Any progress? This is a very desirable feature!
The ability to do this by channel would be a huge plus, so that subscription groups only shows us what we want.
I was so happy when I found out that idea of content filtering is actively discussed on GitHub. I really hope that someday this will be realized.
What's taking so Goddamn long? This was a necessary feature over two years ago.
Might be useful to have the ability to pause updates for a subscription or put subscriptions into different categories. It's really easy to miss a high impact but low frequency publisher because your feed is bloated with many other interesting but high volume (and potentially hit or miss) publishers.
I'm pretty sure NewPipe is a dead project. My subscription feed is destroyed by permanent top notifications about upcoming and currently streaming videos. I cannot see new videos anymore without scrolling down, or unsubbing from certain channels. NewPipe needed to patch this issue years ago, but this practice exploded in 2024. Presently reverted to using yt-dlp with some filters.
actually, i just realized that if I click the eyeball icon on the "What's new" tab, it lets me filter out Upcoming videos.
All I can say is I truly regret sending NewPipe some monetary support years ago. If I had known they would have pocketed the money and refuse to live up to their bargain and rudely ignore and ridicule gentle criticisms, I would have supported a more worthwhile project.
I think 4 simple features could solve all of this:
- when Subscribing to a channel, allow to put it directly into a group (such as comedy, culture, nature, science, politics, etc.).
- Allow groups to be displayed as tabs
- allow easier adding of channels to a group when in the group
- allow adding a channel to a group when in a channel
Right now the group feature exists, but it is just too hard to use.

I think you must be confusing this project with another one.

"Gentle" criticism from this user:

😆
@opusforlife2 What begins as gentle criticism develops over years of wasted patience on the wrong team into outright annoyance.
Here's some food for thought, @tempo660 https://gomakethings.com/open-source-etiquette/. It's a pretty short read.
Here's a longer one in case this interests you: https://github.com/AndyObtiva/open-source-etiquette?tab=readme-ov-file#open-source-project-users.
@opusforlife2 Thanks but I'm well schooled on how to treat liars and nazis and what they deserve. Sorry I don't have a link with more info.

"Hey, FOSS volunteer, I order you to do this." ... (no response) ... "You Nazi. You should burn in hell."
👏
For those who don't know, Settings > Content > Fetch Channel Tabs
can filter out a lot of that content. Not exactly what OP wants, but useful to know.
