If technically possible: Add option to disable auto translation / dubbing / synchronization

Feature description

I don't know if this is technically possible (yet). But I would like to have a settings option to disable any auto-altering (translation / dubbing / synchronization) of video titles / content. (Youtube / NewPipe should) Just display, play and download the video (title / description) in its original version.

A bonus sub-feature / alternative feature would maybe be to offer to set languages that should not be translated.

Why do you want this feature?

Youtube apparently nowadays does auto translation / dubbing / synchronization of videos (and their title / description).

It's annoying enough if the original title of a video gets translated, but modifying a video to have some - probably AI - voices presenting the audio in some other language instead of the original voices and languages is very annoying.

I encounter this more and more for downloaded videos - that I'd like to watch in the original version, no matter what preferred language / region is set in NewPipe.

+1 I hate that stuff

Thank you, I was coming yo say the same thing. I am not a native English speaker, so my UI is in another language, and when I open an English video and find it has been audio translated, it is really annoying.

I tried to search in the source code to find how the audio tracks here handled, but it seems really complex, and I can't seems to get the hang of it. I didn't see the issue at first, so dropping here the keyword I was searching for : audiotrack

If one the dev comes by here, I am willing to try to work on this, but I would need starting indications on where to look to add a parameter for this choice, and where is selected the language of the audio track.

Thanks !

You can already do that. Go to settings -> "Video and audio" -> toggle on "Prefer original audio"

Great! Thanks for the tip! Maybe switch it on by default?

I have this enabled and it works great while actually watching the videos. The one caveat I found is that the videos still show up with the translated title in my playlists (and I think the feed as well) until I open/watch the video. At that moment the title is updated to the original one and remains that way (presumably until one clears the cache).

Not sure if there is anything NewPipe can do without triggering extra requests for each video, but if it can be implemented without a lot of overhead that the original title is displayed I would love that.

I can confirm some video still show up with a translated title in my feed. It will be perfect if we can disable this or enable original title only.
