Feature description

hi, could we please get a way to sort playlists the way they were before v0.27.0? :(

idk, a tiny button to change the sorting order?

button pop-up

something like this:

0 - tiny button 1 - custom sorting 2 - alphabetical order
0 1 2

the "drag & drop" buttons would be gone in the alphabetical order, to prevent accidents:

drag

Why do you want this feature?

the sorting order that was implemented in v0.27.0 is completely bugged, it randomly changes all the time and there's no way to sort playlists in alphabetical order anymore.

also, the alphabetical order that we had before v0.27.0 was smart enough to separate different types of playlists.

eg. custom playlists, YT Music playlists, and regular YT playlists were separated from each other.... while the sorting order that we have now treats all of them like the same type and mixes them all together, turning them into a spaghetti of playlists that doesn't make any sense.

Additional information

(all those images were edited by me, that's not actual NewPipe code)

this is not a duplicate, it's a regression that was introduced with v0.27.0

As OP says this regression was introduced in v0.27.0 with #8221 Thus reopening.

Remain 10 days ! Let's hope this regression will be rectify very soon (some people are waiting since almost 2 months).

PS : What about another filter inside each playlists ? For example, it will be a nice improvement to add the duration (hours, minutes etc).

i'm very sure that should be a different issue

What will be @sosasees the purpose ? From my point of view the matter is similar. Hidden ? They need a reminder because they didn't resolve it (none reply, none news).

Another fact, without this one (iisue) I had totally forgot this function was available in the previous version of NewPipe [....] Sometimes I could be very patient (years) but this regression doesn't seem to be important for them (it doesn't take 2 months) unless they take a little time to explain the delay ? That's really a big trouble because GitHub sound empty (none sign of life and respect)).

adding new filters (which NewPipe never had before) is a different issue to adding back removed filters

well... if there are no current plans to implement something like that, can you guys please reconsider reverting the https://github.com/TeamNewPipe/NewPipe/pull/8221 commit?

revert to the old default order?

the playlists in NewPipe have been unusable these last few months... they change their order all the time, and I can never find the playlist that I'm looking for because the order is always different.

it's stressful that they're not in alphabetical order anymore :/

is this regression ever going to get fixed...?

Ok so I had a look at this "issue" and it makes not really sense to me:

In one hand you want to sort playlists (=new feature) yet on the other you claim that there is currently a "regression":

it randomly changes the order all the time

This change is now implemented for over a year, I have some playlists and never encountered this problem in the last months...

Also from https://github.com/TeamNewPipe/NewPipe/issues/12436

can you guys please take a look at the regression from https://github.com/TeamNewPipe/NewPipe/issues/11456 ? I mean to revert the commit that caused that issue, not precisely implement the feature that I explained there.

  1. This is not related to v0.28.0
  2. The commit is not revertable after a year
  3. most people are likely fine with the custom sort option

To address the problem a new feature needs to be created which rebuilds the custom index based on the name of the items or something similar like having a custom sort option stored somewhere.

If someone want's to pick up the issue and create a proper PR, feel free to do so.

I don't have the 3 dot menu to sort alphabetically in 0.28.0 :(

Uhm yes because it's not implemented and this is just an issue discussing it...
