Additional information
-
I have gone to "Settings -> History and cache" and cleared the cache on everything (metadata, watch history, playback positions, search history)
-
After I've done all steps listed under "Steps to reproduce the bug" and this wiping of the cache, I waited to make sure that new uploads that appeared after that point in time still show shorts. And yes, new shorts from channels I'm subscribed to that were uploaded after I've done all those things keep appearing in my "What's new".
I can't reproduce, I've been happily using the feed with shorts disabled for some time now and I don't have any shorts. Can you provide a full list of steps to perform starting from a clean installation, including which channels you subscribe to? You can e.g. download a nightly from here to have a parallel installation: https://github.com/TeamNewPipe/NewPipe-nightly/releases
