[Bug]: Lag whilst expanding side panel

Description

Whilst trying to expand the side panel, I experience large amounts of lag which means that it's very hard to expand it to the right point as it brings up a message to wait as the program is not responding.

Expected Behavior

It should be much more performant.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Hover over the side panel and drag it inwards (towards the left)

No latency on my side. Behaves as expected.

Anyone running Ubuntu with gnome display manager please test it for yourself. (I tested it with Xorg display manager, and I don't experience lag, so it must just be Ubuntu + Gnome display manager)
