Muted Livestream and VOD when clicked
Describe the bug
The lecture is always muted when you click on it. The default would logically be to have sound on to start watching directly.
To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:
- Go to live.rgb.tum.de
- Click on a lecture or a livestream
- It is on muted
Expected behavior Expected to have sound on. Other Classmates seemed to find it strange and tedious to have to unmute every time you click on a video.
Desktop (please complete the following information):
- OS: macOS Sequoia Version 15.2
- Browser : Tried on Firefox and Safari
- Version : Firefox 134.0 , Safari 18.2
Smartphone (please complete the following information): It was not muted as a default on mobile.
- Device: iPhone6s
- OS: iOS 15.8.3
- Browser : Safari
Additional context None
Does this only happen on mobile? I don't think this should be the the case and I can't reproduce it on desktop.

For me, it's muted by default on desktop as well as on mobile using:
Desktop
- OS: Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS
- Version : Firefox 134.0 , Google Chrome 130.0.6723.58
Mobile
- Pixel 7a
- OS: Android 15
- Browser: Firefox and Chrome
However, after watching and unmuting any stream on my devices, this only resets after quite some time. There is a time frame, where any stream/VoD will be unmuted. I'm guessing it resets after logging out and in, although I'm not really sure.
I think we need to figure out how browsers and videojs handle autoplay policies: https://developer.chrome.com/blog/autoplay
For Firefox there is this button right next to the URL in which you can enable autoplay with sound.
My Firefox is on version 134.0.1. This might also be the case for your OS.
there is also a similar button on Safari. The question is what is the default we want and is there a way to enforce it from tumlive side and not user side ?
