Room Setting "All users join as moderators"

Open hex-m opened this issue 1 year ago • 4 comments

Currently the Default role can be set but (only for authenticated users). We would like everyone in the meeting to be moderator by default - even users that don't have an account.

As the setting was available in GL, some of our users consider this a regression.

Thanks a lot for your effort!

Guests users are joined with a special api parameter. This is to give moderators a glimpse of who they can trust as their identity is proved somehow. Unauthorised users / guest can be dangerous especially if the room owner is not aware of the risk of losing permissions in his own meeting.

Therefor BBB, and originally also Greenlight as well, has treated them with special care.

There is a slightly new setting in BBB that allows guests to be promoted to moderators.

Due to the reasons outlined above we currently do not plan to add such setting. It would also complicate the current permissions system in Pilos and make other permissions related features obsolete, ineffective and very confusing for the users.

If the unauthorised users are a small and known group of users you can also create „personalised room links“. These are treated in a meeting as non-guest users can can be setup with moderator role ahead.

User Story: I create a Room for meetings with external partners (that don't have an account from our organization). We would like to use that room, even if I can't take part in it. Currently I can create the room in a way that guests can start a meeting, talk and share videos - but nobody can get the presenter role (share screen, present slides).

you can also create „personalised room links“

That works in some cases, thanks! In other cases the list of people is not that clear (or too big) and the knowledge of the link should suffice as authorization. (think jitsi meet or etherpad)

I understand that this is currently not a priority - thanks for the consideration!

If anyone else from the hosting company has a user account, setting the default role would allow them to be moderators and promote all guest
