SaveRAM cleared/rewritten itself?

Open Kooogie opened this issue 2 years ago • 6 comments

I'm not too sure what happened but I can tell you the issue.

I was playing LOZ:OOT and I was trying to beat the game that I couldn't do when I was younger, but when I reached Ganon's Tower I closed out of the application and I my save data was gone. I did save and it did work before this.

I still have my SRAM of OOT, and .BAK too. But I can't get the Software to read it. Here are the files: (Yes they are in N64\SaveRAM) image

Any ideas?

If you haven't moved the .SaveRAM file but it's not loading, then maybe it was corrupted. Upload it here in a .zip and I'll try loading it myself.

Which version of EmuHawk are you using?

I am using BizHawk 2.3

Heres the Zip: OOT-SaveRAM.zip

Does this issue occur on the latest version of BizHawk? 2.3 is quite old.

I downloaded the most recent one (2.8) and it's still doing what it did on the earlier release.

I did a little bit of investigating myself, so I compared two different save files together.

The unchanged one and a newer one which I created a save file.

I did noticed something about the newer one, it had a little bit of data on the very bottom of the file shown here image

Compared to the older one which it's completely missing the data on the bottom image

With this I think the older save file might of cleared itself. I am no professional but it's how it is looking at the moment. So I am afraid that all of my data was wiped clean. I did noticed an option on the Emulator that you can "Close and Clear SRam" image

So that might be the culprit? I don't remember hitting this button at all, nor even acknowledged this before the investigation. Maybe I might of hit the right key combination?

A bit of a late reply, but I think your issue is related to the fact Bizhawk automatically load the .bak in case of a missmatch between it and the .SaveRAM file. Made a Feature request #3385 about it
