PCem support?

Open InfamousKnight opened this issue 4 years ago • 5 comments

Ive heard a while back that pcem would be integrated into bizhawk with a high chance.

Since then, a new release of pcem came out, which means better capability.

Is there a reason for the delay?

I am aware that pcem works in libtas, but Ive had trouble with that.

I actually discovered that PCEM doesn't support save states yet and that would be the reason :/

Don't think of it in terms of "delay". BizHawk has exactly 0 devs who are full-time tasked to it, so there's no regular cadence to features, just when the people who work on things have time to work on things. I can say that we're interested in PCEM and have been for quite some time, and that the lack of save states is not a huge issue. It's just a large and complex core.

Thank you for the update! And yes, it is very big and complex.

PCem development has basically stopped (the dev quit), but there's a fork that's still very active, emulates some more hardware, and also was recently ported to linux https://github.com/86Box/86Box

to TAS with pcem use linux release in libTAS

I'm aware of that option. It's just there's features bizhawk has that libtas doesn't. I use bizhawk for its rewind feature, gamepad mapping, loading a save state to get straight back to work on a movie, etc. Those are not currently possible with libtas.
