Can't Free up Unused Space

Open bsonnek opened this issue 4 years ago • 2 comments

I can't seem to free up space on some VHDX User profile drives. The VHDX shows a size of 19 GB sitting on the network drive When I mount the VHDX it shows a total of 12 GB of Used Space. I should be able to shrink the VHDX down to 14 GB at least. Is there something I'm missing? I ran the defrag, then zerofreespace, and then the sDelete commands. I still cannot shrink it down.

In addition to the info above. I had to mount the VHDX on a server with Hyper-V installed. I then used Disk Management to "Shrink Volume" to resize it to the minimum allowed. I then ran the ShrinkFSL.exe application to reduce the size of the VHDX File on my network drive.

Hi, thanks for this information. Are you also experiencing this issue with your other VHDX files?

I switched to the version from the tech net site and it fixed all of my major issues. I was able to successfully run the script on a folder of vhdx files with no issues. The only issue I have now is if I run it on a single vhdx it won’t unmount when finished.
