Open timoline opened this issue 12 years ago • 13 comments

I think its requested many times, but I try again: Please.... create a package for spotweb. :)

here's an installation howto: http://synology.brickman.nl/syn_howto/HowTo%20-%20install%20Spotweb.txt

Ofcourse you can drop the git installation and update/retreive scripts

Thanx in advance

If this app has no english version I doubt we will create a SPK. Maybe someone that speaks nl can do it :)

I see what you mean, not all strings are translated into English, hmmm, I will contact the spotweb crew or I'll translate it myself if needed. If thats what you mean....?

I ckecked this a few weeks ago, and even if I don't understand a word of Dutch, I was able to make this work. But I ran in memory issue, and the process was killed during the article retrieval (it was using 128Mb or RAM at that time). I didn't went further with my investigations.

As far as I understand from the spotweb crew, almost everything now is translated into english. But I see your point, the first retrieval of posts/spots is really killing, it took for me about 24 hours to fill the db, with some settings you can make it work faster, (retention to a few weeks instead of full, or no full posts, no comments etc..)

Maybe its better to wait for a future version and spent your time on other (easier) packages, like new phpmyadmin etc.. thx for your answers

Most of spotweb is in english it seems. However, a SPK with spotweb would mean messing with the user MySQL and Apache configuration. Definitely not a good solution.

I think the best would be to rely on a SPK dependency that can provide both a database server (mysql) AND a web server (nginx) AND a good way to add configurations for SPKs like puting a configuration file per SPK in a specific folder. Also maybe an UI to enable/disable.

Thus, any spksrc SPKs could depend on this SPK to have active web capabilities. What do you think @zebulon501 ?

This is a lot of work...

Cannot cross compile nginx... Another solution could be to let the user input its mysql user/pwd for the spotweb SPK he has to create manually using wizard ui. Not fully automated but the most we can do IMO. Is that how the wordpress SPK works ?

spotweb shall be packaged like wordpress and phpmyadmin form Synology, using the native apache and mysql.

If you embed nginx, then you'll have:

  • another running process
  • a gateway to put in place between the native apache (listening on port 80) and your nginx (on another port)

Is there any progress on this ? Thanks in advance

Maybe we should wait multilingual support as SpotWeb apparently only supports NL-nl.

Spotweb supports also English, which is even default now https://github.com/spotweb/spotweb/commit/0c7cde170f5abdf9d4ba14aa72451862ac1a9b8d

There is already a package for it: http://synology.mdevries.org/spkrepo/packages

New development in this issue: When accesing the repository the creator more or less states that he has fewer time at hand and he will stop distributing the package...

the good news... He used spksrc to create his package on his repository. https://github.com/Martijn085/spksrc/tree/mdevries/spk/spotweb

Can SynoCommunity host this package? There were already a few improvements in the source since the latest build.

This brings me to the update mechanism. There is none, but a regular update/rebuild should suffice.

Hello @hgy59 @publicarray I was about to create a new package request but I saw this one was open. I'd like to give this one another try. Can we make a SynoCommunity maintained package for Spotweb on DSM 7? That would be awesome :)

I'd be happy to test the new package for you.
