Change scatterplot colour on client side

How can the colours of a mapdeck scatterplot be updated on the client side?

Changing them via mapdeck_update and add_scatterplot is very slow with 100,000s of points, as it seems to happen on the server side.

With the picker package, updating the colours via picker_proxy and update_picker is almost instantaneous (but picker is missing some mapdeck features that I need).
