Start fixing the English translation

Open DuendeInexistente opened this issue 3 years ago • 3 comments

I did several edits on the eng translation because it's the one that others would pressumably be based on. I also attached several comments, but since I don't know if I broke the file in doing that, I also added #COMMENT: to them to make them easy to remove.

I'll put them here too, just in case:

#COMMENT: What in the fuck? Does 100%~ mean over 100%?
300=Zoom steps (Under 100%)
+=Zoom steps (Over 100%)
+=Rotation steps
+=Pixel:size ratio when drag resizing
#COMMENT: Why is that in this section? It has to do with rates like the others, but the section is called zoom.
+=Format is incompatible
# COMMENT: ^ I guess?
+=please check the layer you want to view according to the layer list.
#COMMENT: ^ I'm not sure of what that one means, in which context is it used? Something to do with filters?
#COMMENT: On purpose, layer features URGENTLY need explanation. I don't actually know what the check mark or buckets do, even though I'm aware one of them has something to do with clipping layers/layer masks functionality. Consider adding hover texts that detail it, and/ or a question mark function like microsoft's old products (Click with the question mark-> get an explanation of what it does).

@DuendeInexistente Yes, please! Especially if you are a native speaker. :)

I'm doing my best to prepare a Swedish translation from scratch and have encountered several instances where the original text has clarity issues:

1=RGB value\n(text except of number is treated as a separate mark)\nexample:255,0,128

I took it to mean that any characters that are not numbers are considered to be separators. Another example where the lack of context makes it hard to translate:

+=rectangled overwriting

This is apparently relating to pixel mode (brush) so I'm guessing this makes the brush tool paint over some pixels, but what does rectangled mean in this context?

I forgot to mention these translation related questions that ideally should be answered in a comment in the header for the en translation:

  • Are there character limits for the translations?
    • I'm assuming that there aren't any.
  • What encoding may be used?
    • I'm assuming UTF-8 since Swedish contains åäöÅÄÖ.
  • Do I need to move the \n in the translated strings? How can I know where to move them?
    • _I'm keeping them in between the translated words and hoping for the best.
  • Should I translate the accelerator keys (&F) to fit with words in the translation?
    • I'm assuming that I should.

Thanks!

JFTR, Actually this repo a little bit outdated AzPainter 2.1.6 (latest official release in 2.x series is 2.1.7) as still not include 3.x (latest official release is 3.0.4)

I would merge official 2.1.7 into master (without rolling release) and then will move it into v2 branch (it would be staled since then), and after it will merge 3.0.4 into master for continuous community contributing.

Please, keep your work — I will back here next month)
