PSX games that require .sbi files do not work

Open manero6 opened this issue 1 year ago • 1 comments

Games that require additional .sbi files do not work properly.

A bunch of PAL games need those files, a list can be found here -> https://psxdatacenter.com/sbifiles.html The games I tried are:

  • FFIX (Germany)
  • Crash Team Racing (Germany)

I have those games in both .cue/.bin and .chd and I use a .m3u for multidisk games. They are named similar to this:

game a.chd
game a.sbi

or:

game a (disc 1).bin
game a (disc 1).cue
game a (disc 1).sbi
game a (disc 2).bin
game a (disc 2).cue
game a (disc 2).sbi
game a (disc 3).bin
game a (disc 3).cue
game a (disc 3).sbi
game a (disc 4).bin
game a (disc 2).cue
game a (disc 2).sbi
game a.m3u

What works:

  • the games are recognized correctly, both .chd or .cue/.bin file formats work
  • .m3u playlist file is recognized and I can switch disk correctly through the menu

What does not work:

  • FFIX does not load at all (does not go past the initial black screen)
  • CTR loads till menu but then freezes
  • same issue if the games are in a psx folder or not

Alternative tried:

  • with DuckStation on my phone (.apk downloaded from their website)
    • games are correctly recognized and work fine (same files, no renaming, same folder)
    • games do not load when renaming .sbi files (for example to .sbi.bak), DuckStation shows an error specifically about the missing .sbi
  • on Linux using RetroArch and PCSX ReARMed core (via Lutris)
    • games work correctly (same files, no renaming)

Smartphone (please complete the following information):

  • Device: Oneplus 6
  • OS: latest /e/OS 1.9-s (based on Android 12)
  • Lemuroid from: FDroid

Same problem with a friend's phone:

  • Device: recent Xiaomi
  • OS: latest MIUI
  • Lemuroid from: Google Store

Otherwise Lemuroid works great!! Ciao :)

I have exactly the same problem, any news on this ? I saw the PCSX ReARMed FAQ and they already support .SBI files
