Cloud saves on Android TV: "Sorry, this app is not supported"

Open timfoley opened this issue 3 years ago • 7 comments

Hi! I'm using Lemuroid on my Chromecast with Google TV and running into a road block trying to configure my Google drive account for cloud saves.

It "worked" the first time I tried, but it never actually synced (whenever I clicked manual sync, the timestamp never changed from the very first time I connected the account, and I saw no evidence that anything ever synced).

I unlinked the account and tried to re-link it, but now I get an error dialog that reads: "Something went wrong. Sorry, this app is not supported. Please try again later." When I dismiss the dialog, a toast notification pops up at the bottom of the screen reading: "Google sign in failed: 12501". This is now what happens every time (even after restarting the device).

the error message described in the above paragraph

I'm using Lemuroid v1.11.3

on a Chromecast with Google TV:

  • Kernel version 4.9.180
  • Android TV OS build QTS1.210311.7350836

Let me know if anyone has thoughts, or wants more info.

Hi @timfoley . Thank you for the detailed bug report! From a quick search it might be an issue with the APK signing. Did you install Lemuroid directly from Google Play or is it coming through some other source?

I installed it from the play store. I've thought about uninstalling and reinstalling it, but I wasn't sure if that would leave my saves intact.

@Swordfish90 if I uninstall and reinstall lemuroid, will my saves still be there?

Hi @timfoley . If you reinstall Lemuroid your saves will be gone. You should manually back them up as illustrated here: https://github.com/Swordfish90/Lemuroid/wiki/Frequently-Asked-Questions

Unfortunately I get this same error after uninstalling and reinstalling

Another Chromecast with Google TV player here. I've got the same problem, tried reinstalling, deleting data and so on but still cannot connect to GDrive.

Same error here on a Chromecast with Google TV with the App installed directly from the Play Store.

I get the same error with a different app (Argon) on both Chromecast HD and Chromecast 4K. It seems specific to Google TV devices and specific gmail accounts. I do not get the error with the same account on an NVIDA Shield (Android TV), and I also do not get the error on the Chromecast devices if I use my G-Suite/work account. The account that fails with "app not supported" also is unable to be used to setup the Chromecast device using the Google Home method of device setup. If I setup the device manually and use the problematic account, the device gets set up and google apps work OK, but 3rd party apps get the "app not supported error". Based on this Google Drive related report, and our own app using Firebase Auth, I have to wonder if the issue is with OAUTH style 3rd party login.

On Nest Community forums, I've seen others report that they can work-around the problem by using a different account to the one that gets the error, further suggesting it is something specific to/corrupted in some subset of google accounts.

I'm continuing to research this to try and narrow it down further.
