cannot play videos, no obvious error in logs
I have been trying to get kaito working, but I'm having problems on both my raspberry pi running retropie and my android phone.
Whenever I select an episode (I have tried anime from the popular lists and older anime and get no results with any) in kaito and try to play, I get a screen showing that kaito is searching for a source, then it returns to the episode list. Sometimes I get a message saying "Playback Failed One or more items failed to play. Check the log for more information about this message", but normally I am just returned to the episode list with no notification.
I checked the kodi.log file on my raspberry pi, none of the error messages appear to be related to kaito. I also checked ./kodi/addons/plugin.video/kaito for logs but didn't find any there.

The VPN is working despite the errors, I am able to play videos from other streaming plugins without issues.
Give an example of a show and episode.
Sorry for the delay, I was away from home, but I did some more testing today. On my raspberry pi, I tried watching episodes 1 and 2 of Hayate the Combat Butler (both dubbed and subbed) and could not play any of those. I also tested Jujutsu Kaisen since it was the top of popular this season, I could not watch episode 1 of that, but I could watch episode 2 of jujutsu kaisen.
On my phone, I tested all the same epsiodes and was able to watch jujutsu kaisen episodes 1 and 2, but the same 4 episodes of hayate the combat butler would not play. I also tested episodes 1 and 2 of cautious hero: the hero is overpowered but overly cautious, and couldn't play either of those.
As far as sources go on my end:
Hayate Combat Butler Nothing in cache Embed not playing
Jujutsu Kaisen Lots of cached sources
So, for Hayate I would suggest uploading a good magnet from nyaa.si to your RD. As soon as it's downloaded, Kaito will find it cached.
But then... I almost always have to select a source to play twice. First time does nothing, second time it plays.... or it starts searching again :) But after the second search it mostly plays right away.
Thats also why you need to use Source Select, AutoPlay is confusing atm.
