CR SDXL Aspect Ratio: batch size = VRAM increase?

Why is it that when I increase my Vram can go up so much it becomes unusable?

I would image the batch to just be a sequence of images not one giant cluster of images all at the same time,

Does this mean if I generate 1 image the res can be substantially higher then if it were 8?
