rebuild and partial assemble with SMDs

Hi,

This is Brian, (Kipper2k). I am wanting to create a SMD version A500+ type board and would like to add new features. TBH, i don't have the time to start from scratch and want to start off with a .sch and ,brd file so i can update and then produce gerbers with the intent of creating a partial assembly of all those little components that eat up time soldering etc. I will release files so people can do this themselves. The cost of SMD will be much cheaper than using through hole components.

So my questions is, Has this board been proven working, Are there any Eagle files available and lastly are you willing to share the info so i can get started.

I built this SMD A500+ and it works (with 8375 Agnus and DIP RAM) https://github.com/gazzmaniac/Amiga-SMD-500 There are issues with the port placements and holes also and I believe maybe still with the soldermask around U33/U32?

The files available here have been tested and proved working very well, with only a few annoyances which have been fixed already. Some improvements have also been thrown into the mix and a V2 was born. This has been tested and proved working just as well. It will be released soon but the license will be changed to non-commercial. I have the intention of releasing it under the old CERN OSHW license to any individual who does any "significant contribution", but that means they will have to share their modified sources in the same way. And "sources" means "full project files" as you can see here, not just Gerbers.

The project is done in Kicad, so no Eagle files, sorry.

Hi, Thanks for the info. I will post all my files, gerbers and eagle, and if i get ambitious i will learn kicad. It will be an a500+ board but the layout may be slightly different to allow for all the mods flying around. (I did add the ad724 composite/svideo design to the board design, taken from the "Narmi project"

You can just load the files into kicad. The BOM is also there.

I'm not sure what you mean. I have had boards built with the gerbers and you don't need the gerbers to load the board into kicad. You can generate new gerbers there if yours are corrupt.

The gerbers posted at his site are reported as being bad by jlc. i posted closeups of the errors in his gerbers on his github (that i found). I do not know kicad well enough to start tweaking his files to make gerbers as i use Eagle cad and i dont want to risk introducing more errors and submitting them to JLC.

Ah I see. I did some adjustments 2 years ago when I generated my own gerbers. I can't remember what I did, but it wasn't a great deal. I think some track/s that wasn't needed and some soldermask problems. I cant take any decent pictures as I made the boards in white and nothing shows up. I could possibly look for the files I used but it might take me some time.

No worries, i will use my eagle files and cross reference his. I intend on doing the partial assembly too so whoever wants to get most of it soldered should be able to at JLC
