When launching Nitrox on Linux with launch options -vrmode openvr or -vrmode oculus or -vrmode no additional are taken in the launch process, and the game is not launched.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help!

Describe the steps you took to encounter the bug.

Reproducible by setting the launch options in the Nitrox launcher to either -vrmode openvr, -vrmode oculus , or -vrmode

Strangely, launching the game successfully with no arguments or the -vrmode none argument yields the same log, but the console window the Nitrox launcher was launched from has some additional logs: https://pastebin.com/WE0WpU0W

Thank's for the report @EvantheGrump what's the issue you're encountering exactly ?

When you set -vrmode to some value, the game doesn't seem to launch ?

Yep, you got it! I would record a video, but there isn't much to see 😁

I don't have VR, is that required to get this issue? If you can help us drill down on how to get the issue we can fix it. Closing until then.

No, VR is not required to encounter this issue, though when trying to use VR is when it would mainly arise. The issue has nothing to do with whether steamvr is open or not. I tested on Windows, and this issue did not occur, so I would posit that the main problem arises from being on Linux.

Edit: This also happens to another of my friends. Both of us are on Arch Linux, and the game will not launch for either of us when the -vrmode option is set to anything but none.

Might need help from @Jannify he's also on Arch. I'm on Fedora so might be some Arch convention that we don't support.

Do you have a specific version of dotnet installed? I'm using dotnet-runtime-9.0 9.0.11.sdk112-1. Is there a fedora equivalent?

EvantheGrump avatar Dec 13 '25 20:12 EvantheGrump

I have both 9.0.11 and 10.0.0. It's unlikely that changing dotnet versions will fix this though. Or it would have come up before when we were all on .net 9.

Ok, thanks. If you need any more info, please let me know.

I just tested -vrmode openvr and -vrmode oculus and with both Subnautica starts (in window mode). Unfortunately I only have an Oculus Rift CV1 which isn't supported on linux :( so I can't test the vr functionality.
