Samsung TV (Tizen OS 2032): Personal Server shows "offline" and Add-ons fail to sync

Open Walien-dev opened this issue 2 months ago • 6 comments

Stremio Platform

Samsung Native TV

Describe the bug

The Stremio application (Theater version v1.8.3) on my Samsung Smart TV is unable to connect to my personal server and fails to sync installed add-ons, even though the same account, server, and network work perfectly on other devices (Android TV, PC, Mac).

  • The server IP, which works elsewhere, consistently shows as "offline" on the Samsung TV.
  • The "Addons" tab displays the message: "Use Stremio on your Phone or PC to install or configure addons and press ‘Sync Addons.’”
  • Pressing "Sync Addons" does nothing; the configured add-ons do not load.
  • The Samsung TV's internet connection is confirmed to be working for other applications (Disney+, Netflix, etc.).
  • All suggested troubleshooting steps have been exhausted, including:
    • Power cycling the TV and modem/router (unplugging for a few minutes).
    • Reinstalling the app and restarting the TV.
    • Logging out and back in.
    • Clearing the app's cache and data (which temporarily caused the movie catalog to empty).
    • Disabling any VPN.
    • Changing DNS resolution to 1.1.1.1.

To Reproduce

  1. Install Stremio (Theater version v1.8.3) from the Samsung TV App Store.
  2. Log into the Stremio account (which has active add-ons and a working personal server).
  3. Enter the server IP address.
  4. Navigate to the "Addons" tab and press "Sync Addons".

Expected behavior

  1. The personal server should show as "online" and connect successfully.
  2. The configured add-ons should sync and be visible, allowing streams to be loaded.

Did you read my issue? I wrote that i already tried.

All suggested troubleshooting steps have been exhausted, including: Power cycling the TV and modem/router (unplugging for a few minutes).

But thank you for your answer!

Hello @TRtomasz ? Can you please help me, or at least give me an answer to know how much time it can take to be resolved

@Walien-dev we are a free app, working on over 10 platforms with a small team, we cannot give an ETA for anything, what "Server IP" do you enter for the stremio server? if you are hosting a different stremio server on your LAN then it just can't work without SSL, only localhost is allowed for the stremio server without SSL, if that is ur case then it is not a bug, it is the expected behavior, this is a security limitation outside of our control

Thanks for your reply, @jaruba !

I'm using the same IP for the Stremio server across all my instances (web browser, Android TV) and it's working perfectly fine. The issue is only with the Samsung TV, where the server stays 'offline.'

This makes me wonder: Is this still an SSL problem? If so, why does the server work without SSL on every other device I use, including Android TV, but not on this Samsung TV?

Also, are the issues I'm having with addons related to this server problem as well?

I understand you can't provide an ETA.

Hello!

Just an update: The server is now running on an SSL URL and works fine on the TV, but i still have no functional add-ons
