Video scaling issue on Exoplayer on Android TV

Describe the bug

The last 2 days every movie or series that i open are facing a resolution issue while using 1.6.13. It shows in the 1/4 portion of the screen. This is happening on my Android TV (Sony Bravia) running on Android 12. Tried installing 1.6.14 and 1.6.15 but the issue is still there. Also checked and unchecked hardware accelerated and also the video scaling within the movie to either fit to screen or best fit but the issue is still there.

To Reproduce

  1. Select any movie or series
  2. Open the movie/series from any addon
  3. The player is opening at default in a 1/4 screen ration (happening also while using VPN or not)

Expected behavior

  1. Select any movie or series
  2. Open the movie/series from any addon
  3. The player is opening on the producer ratio (21:9)

and is it working fine on 1.6.12? Was it working fine on version newer than 1.6.12 before? Is the player ui also displayed in the 1/4 of the screen or it is full screen?

Everything was working perfect on 1.6.12 and the player UI when browsing the app is showing normally on full screen. Let me share also that i haven't installed any updates to the app prior to the scaling issue that i'm facing. On any update to the stremio app that i did the issue is there. Is there any way to open any log section to share any additional info while browsing the app on the TV?

Was it working fine before with newer versions too?

Was using 1.6.12 and i haven't installed any update at all. Suddenly at 17/8 i got this error while before that even at 16/8 everything was working good. After installing 1.6.14 or 1.6.15 issue is still there

so it is happening on 1.6.12? then it does not look like related to the update or app itself since 1.6.12 has been released over a year ago

Same bug for me. I noticed it only happens on 1080p media. When playing 4k it fits my whole screen.

Tried changing Video Scaling to "Fit Screen" doesn't not work. Tried match frame & resolution as well as disabling doesn't work either Both Exo and LibVLC doesn't work Playing it to an External Player (Just Player) also presented with the same bug. (potentially pointing to a video decoding issue?) Reinstalling did not work either. Another thing to note, it isn't just a Stremio issue but a TV wide issue, went on youtube and got the same video scaling issue.

I did only upgrade my Android TV OS to Android 12 recently. So it might be an OS related issue.

Another note, I did do some adb app disabling and replaced the default launcher with Projectivy. Something along that process might have caused some issue.

Resetting the whole TV and will report back with finding. Resetting the whole TV seems to have done the trick.

Might be a case of flying too close to the tv customisation sun.

When pausing for a bit on "fit screen" setting upon play back it has to be reset back to fit screen again. Beta 1.6.15
