Feature Request : Automated PDF Printing from Monitored Folder

Open NexusEFR opened this issue 1 year ago • 13 comments

I don't know if a platform like the one you have developed could do something that I have been looking for a long time in docker or selfhosted, it would be to monitor a folder and be able to print on the default printer that is configured, so that all the PDFs that arrive in that folder are printed instantly. There are really tedious workloads when receiving hundreds of PDFs in multiple emails.

In any case, I appreciate the assessment of this improvement. Best regards.

This could definitely be done, we recently introduced folder scanning as a feature currently in alpha and adding printing functions can go along with that !

Wow, that would be awesome!! That same function that you mention of the scanned folder would also be good for everything that enters it to be adjusted with image optimization (contrast, sharpness, etc... like camscanner) to make a clean PDF output, ready to use the print function later.

What raises my doubts is how I will connect the printer via network to your system installed in a docker (under UnRaid Server) since the monitored folder will be easier with a link to the mapped docker volume...

Oh my God, you have no limits with this project!! Without a doubt, the best platform for managing PDF documents that improves every day and now more with automation!

Thank you again for all this amazing work.

Here is example of the folder scanner config UI image You can add multiple features and settings to run one after another, and it would apply all to the folder you run it on

And yes idea is monitored folder will be volume mapped

Info docs for it atm are multi process runs and folder scanning

As for printer i had thought of it supporting 3 types of finding/discovering IP URL and Printer name

But shall see what happens

Great!!, I'll try it, it looks good. I have to see how to connect the volumes for the monitored folders. Congratulations again!. Best regards

fyi this feature was never forgotten about, but the issue is java uses a certain program for its printer info, which is not there in alpine dockers, it is for windows and ubuntu and the printing functionality works fine if hosted there but since our docker is alpine it does not work in the docker itself. Becauase of that this project was put on hold till we figure out another way

Thank you very much, I know you are in a lot of processes but I knew you hadn't forgotten it. Don't worry, I hope some way can be found. Best regards

Seems that I am not the only one wanting this functionality, glad I found this Issue.

Is the functionality there but just unavailable due to it missing it's dependency? Or do you need to add both the dependency and the functionality?

If you could tell me what mentioned program is and what is needed for it to work I might be able to look into it and maybe even do a PR.

Hi, first I would like thank the entire team for this outstanding project, I really appreciate your efforts here. Just want to let you know I am interested in folder scanning as well (to run in docker) to do automated OCR to files uploaded from my scanner that does not provide OCR on its own.

Looking forward to any updates on this
