One-time AI-assisted update to catch up Basque (eu_ES) translation coverage

Open PeterDaveHello opened this issue 5 months ago • 1 comments

The Basque (eu_ES) locale, added in #249, currently has very low translation coverage (about 37%), making it hardly usable. The original author seems inactive, so there’s no one actively maintaining this locale.

Previous attempts to translate using small language models (#2164) resulted in poor quality, which led to a heavy workload for ongoing updates and corrections. Later, #2702 explored the use of more advanced models like GPT-4o, Claude 3.5, and Gemini 1.5 Pro, which provided better baseline results and made review easier for native speakers.

More recently, even stronger models like Claude Sonnet 4, GPT-4.1, and Gemini 2.5 Pro have become available, offering improved accuracy and better context understanding.

I propose a one-time AI-assisted catch-up update, similar to #2702, leveraging multiple top models and high-quality reference translations, for example, the Taiwan Traditional Chinese (zh_TW) locale. This effort aims to bring the Basque locale up to date and maintain consistency with the current project state.

Please feel free to share any feedback or suggestions so we can refine this together.
