Great release! =) The question arose : Will there be a message exchange between Discord and Mumble in the future ?

It would be nice to implement this through an IRC server installed on the same machine and preferably with a detailed guide on how to install it all ! =)

Ah, interesting. If you want to bridge only text between discord text channel or mumble text channel and IRC, you might want to check out https://github.com/42wim/matterbridge. I haven't tested it myself, but the project claims compatibility.

When I imagined a text chat feature for MDB, I was thinking more along the line of tying together a mumble channel (both audio and text) to a discord audio channel (current capability) and discord audio channel (this new feature). The sticking point that has been holding me back is I don't think it will be a clean integration on the Discord side since the audio and text channels are separate channels. Informing a connected discord user about the link and avoiding the bot doing weird things when it connects would introduce additional complexity.

To be clear, there is nothing stopping everything from being bridged to the third system like IRC, but it would start to evolve this project beyond the initial problem I was trying to solve.

Have you set up a bridge? Let me know if matterbridge solves your problem it might be best for everyone to develop a guide on how to setup matterbridge alongside MDB

Thanks for the tip, but I already tried installing matterbridge.. There are 2 bugs (which makes it impossible for them to work together)

  1. When I run matterbridge and mumble-discord-bridge together - then the voice communication from Discord to Mumble stops working (until you stop matterbridge), while from Mumble to Discord - the voice is broadcast .. I use two different bots for Matterbridge and mumble-discord-bridge ...
  2. Matterbridge - only sends messages from Mumble to Discord (no messages sent back) P.s. Yes, and Two bots sitting in the same channel - I think this is too much! =)

Hi @timon49 I installed matterbridge and mumble-discord-bridge together and its working so far. Maybe updates on matterbridge or murmur fixed it?

It looks like Discord's rolling out a feature that creates a text channel for each voice channel; one of the servers I'm in had it auto enabled the other day. Attached pic of what it looks like in the UI: image

Should make it a bit cleaner to link things over text better, so this might be worth revisiting if the feature is rolled out more.
