Change toolbar position

Open dccoloso opened this issue 6 years ago • 4 comments

I would like to have the option to change the toolbar position. I'm teaching Stellarium in a classroom and the students in the back can not see the toolbar in the lower part of the screen. I am currectly using the Windows 10 magnifier to show the toolbar at the top of the screen.

Thanks in advance.

The principal menu has been a design decision very early in the history of the project and is a characteristic feature of the program.

Your problem is the projector setup in your classroom. Indeed, many projector systems are not installed properly, i.e. audience in the back does not see the lower part of the screen, where also usually all subtitles or name inserts are shown. It may be preferrable to have a smaller image on the wall that can be seen by all.

Some suggestions:

  • use Stellarium in windowed mode (F11) and move the window a bit higher
  • the mouse is nowadays overrated as main input device, the keyboard is often neglected; invest some time in learning, using and sharing the keyboard shortcuts that correspond to the toolbar items (you can discover the shortcuts by hovering over the toolbar items, and define additional shortcuts if needed).

Thank you all for taking time to answer me. The aim of my message was just a suggestion to developers to add the possibility to "unpin" the menus like many other software. I know it could be difficult and totally useless in most casses, but it could be a useful addition in the future for spefic cases, like mine. For now, I think using Stellarium in windowed mode is the better solution to my particular problem, haven't thought of that. I have been using Stellarium for 10 years now and the improvement in last years is outstanding. Thanks for your work!
