Enabling the display of local siderial time

Open EdWoow opened this issue 1 year ago • 4 comments

Preferrably just next to the location indicator on the left hand side in the horizontal panel. En/disabled via the time tab of the settings box (F2). As one option Or, even if somewhat less desirable, as an alternative to JD in the time windows (F5)

Local siderEal time is displayed whenever you have selected an object.

My bad, I should of course have named it "permanently enable the display of siderial time". As this time is not really related to a certain object. Or even better "move siderial time from the object view to the panel". I've probably tried to keep it too short. Sorry for that.

But thanks very much for your fast reply.

Edit: The reason for this, it is not always desireable to have an object selected, as all the information with its moving parts may distract from browsing the stellarium sky. And takes up some real estate. Still it would be nice to know the siderial time.

You can limit the displayed info items. Currently there is this solution to show sider_E_al time, and yes, also screen width is limited on smaller screens.

I am using customized information anyway, and siderial time is part of that selection, this is just an enhancement request to have the option to have the siderial time (just LMST would be fine) permanently displayed. After all, neither the julian nor the local time are part of (or rather limited to) the object information, are they? And for julian date I even have the option to have it displayed instead of the local (rather stellarium) time. Ymmv, but not everybody has more use for julian than siderial time. In fact, personally I'd rather also see GMST than Julian date, but I do accept, that one is most likely out of the scope of this software.

It simply does not belong there (in the object information) and sometimes seing all that information is just disturbing. However, limiting those information globally would only make them miss when they are actually needed, that is, the object is being selected. In that case I of course do want all the information about the object. Of which siderial time is simply not a part of.

Again, just a wish, as that is, what I consider feature requests to be about.
