When i install plugins from the store it acts normal but when it pops back to decky there is no plugin installed

now i know you guys don't explicitly support other linux distros however i've found other reports of my exact issue on the steam deck subreddit which leads me to believe it is not some issue on my end bur rather a decky loader specific issue https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/1pfw4a2/decky_loader_not_installing_plugins/

for the past few days i have been completely unable to install new plugins from the store (I was trying to update wine celllar)

I just received my Steam Deck about 8 days ago and was able to load several plugins without a problem. I’ve made no modifications and am on SteamOS v3.7.17 and Decky Loader 3.2.1. Besides installing plugins and games via Steam, I haven’t used the console (it’s my Christmas present but I’m allowed to get it ready).

Two days later, all plugins I tried failed after the incrementing the download step. At that point I uninstalled everything and reinstalled SteamOS from the stored backup. Reinstalled Decky Loader and no plugins have been able to be installed since.

I’ve observed no updates; can’t explain what may have changed between plugin installations working and not. I’ve tried installing via URL and ZIP in developer mode and all attempts fail after the incrementing download step.

I am also experiencing this problem on vanilla deck SteamOS. Admittedly thought it was my own fault at first after updating a bunch of programs via desktop mode Discover store before going back to updating Decky, but the problem persisted through a factory reset.

Following suggestions from people in the Deck Homebrew discord, I tried setting my DNS to Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 (did not work) and connecting through a VPN (ProtonVPN paid, briefly worked and let me install a few plugins but then stopped working shortly thereafter.) Other people in there have suggested connecting through a phone hotspot, but the cellular service is terrible where I live so that is not an option for me. Installing EmuDecky through EmuDeck worked.

OS Version: SteamOS 3.7.17 Stable Decky Version: 3.2.1 Stable Plugins Installed:

  • Pause Games v1.0.1
  • Audio Loader v1.6.1
  • ProtonDB Badges v1.1.0
  • SteamGridDB v1.7.0
  • Storage Cleaner v1.4.0
  • TabMaster v2.13.0
  • TunnelDeck v1.0.4
  • vibrantDeck v2.0.1
  • Wine Cellar v0.1.7
  • CSS Loader v2.1.2
  • EmuDecky v1.0.10 (only appeared in list after device reboot post-install via EmuDeck)

(This issue still occurred on a factory reset device with no plugins previously installed. These were able to be installed through using a VPN as described above, but it eventually stopped working after about 10 minutes.)

Have you modified the read-only filesystem at any point? No, I have not.

Just reinstalled everything from scratch (Steamdeck) and can confirm this.

Selecting "Install" does nothing.

Bump. Same thing here. Nothing has fixed it.

Bump. I’m also having the exact same issue with a fresh install on a Legion Go S Z1E SteamOS edition.

I am also having the same issue. I wonder why it's happening.

I figured out a work around for this, after talking to the devs in their discord, they suspected it's an ISP issue, so i tried it with my mobile hotspot and it worked as expected. confirming their theory, so until they fix the underlying issue connect to an alternative source of internet and install your plugins then switch back

MurderFromMars avatar Dec 11 '25 18:12 MurderFromMars

This is indeed an ISP issue, switching to mobile hotspot fixed it. Interestingly, it seems that this might be Cloudflare Turnstile blocking the download, as indicated by the logs of @mooncatte.

It is still happening on my Wi-Fi with a very common french ISP

paulverbeke avatar Dec 13 '25 23:12 paulverbeke

It's been confirmed that Cloudflare is the issue. Believe they're working on a fix.

Problem has been resolved on my end. so i will be closing this issue shortly
