Bug Report Description

Image

Every time I turn on / reset my steamdeck this error appears and I can’t do anything to update the plugins or whatever because after checking for updates there is no way to install them as it’s stuck on this screen.

I already reinstalled the decky, tried to run again but this version seems to be the problem.

Before it happened, the steam os updated.

Expected Behaviour

It should be running normally. No error, no “frontend” crashing etc.

SteamOS version

SteamOS 3.7.15

Selected Update Channel

Stable

Decky Loader Version

v3.1.11

Plugin Info

Is there an easy way to do this? I’m not an expert on those things I can’t go in because it crashes before showing anything

Have you modified the read-only filesystem at any point?

No response

Backend Logs

You should update all of your plugins. Many of them already have fix for this error, which is quite popular.

You should update all of your plugins. Many of them already have fix for this error, which is quite popular. How can I update them if I can’t pass through this screen? I clicked on the update button but all I received were notifications but can’t click to actually update

@barbosa-timora, you should go to ~/homebrew/plugins/ path and remove all currently installed plugins. Restart your Steam Deck afterward, and then you should install them one by one again.

I assume that you are not a tech person, so re-installing everything again is the best option for you.

You can pass this screen by pressing with your finger Disable Decky until next boot button, when you will be able to go to Desktop Mode.

Yeah updating decky in the desktop mode did not do anything for me despite being a popular fix.

I had to wipe decky completely (including the config) in desktop mode and then reinstall fresh with no plug ins.

Yes, you also need to uninstall the problematic plugin like described here.

Decky should have a mode where the plugins are not loaded but can be updated. Would greatly improve the UX during these regular events.

The suggestion to uninstall every plugin and reinstall them by hand is very backwards and unsettling. Just like Decky has option to update itself on this screen, there should be an option to update all plugins and there should be guard rails so that plugins only crash it's own existence and not the whole Decky world. Given that currently there are 14 open PRs, I'm don't feel optimistic that if I implement changes to fix this, they'll be reviewed in a timely manner.

@Vortelf , PR is welcomed :)

"plugins only crash it's own existence" isn't possible when patches cause crashes like these

for the other stuff feel free to pr
