support for Events end-point

I added support for the events end-point.

I worked on the code in Python 2.7, but I have a copy working in 3.8.

• I made no changes when I copied this into my 3.8 venv.
• I have my Python 3.8 copy working in production.

I think one of the existing tests is failing. I could not get it to pass before I made any changes.
