Account isolation with multiple accounts.

Open Eggroley opened this issue 2 years ago • 4 comments

Adding multiple accounts to the app in isolation. This would lessen the connection between two separate accounts.

Using discord's account switcher will put you against the TOS and in the event that one account is suspended, both are. An alternative would be preferable.

Using discord's account switcher will put you against the ToS (...).

Where exactly that is? I see a section about selling/trading accounts (which seems to be fair to be declined):

You agree not to license, sell, or transfer your account without our prior written approval.

…but there's no notes about multi-account case at all. Unless you will abuse their systems, you should be safe. Other than that, I believe there are legitimate cases you might be forced to use multiple accounts, such as school or work/official accounts.

Other than this, read README.md. Basically WebCord is deprecated (as 4.x.y is the latest version), so you should assume any kind of feature suggestion is very unlikely to be implemented soon.

It's written here: https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/4412732047127-Discord-Account-Switcher-FAQ.

In the event that an account is suspended, be it legitimate or accidental, any other accounts included in the account switcher may be subject to suspension as well.

This still doesn't tell that you're not allowed to use their picker or you will be banned just for having multiple accounts – they mention they might block all of your accounts if you do any kind of activity that they consider malicious. And account isolation might be not enough, given all factors like IP address collection or possibility of aggressive fingerprinting I won't be able to disable that easily, neither UBlock Origin will be. So your comment does not relate to your previous sentence:

Using discord's account switcher will put you against the ToS (...).

That being said, I might consider implementing a some kind of incoginito mode for people who just want to temporarily log in and have their session data removed after app fully closes. But that's rather a low-priority plans, as any feature request or proposal there (due to app rewrite).

You misunderstand me. My point is exactly as I stated.

Using discord's account switcher will put you against the TOS and in the event that one account is suspended, both are. An alternative would be preferable.

By discord: "I have multiple accounts. If I violate Discord’s Terms of Service or Community Guidelines and our Trust and Safety team decides to take action on my account, might they take action on more than one of my accounts?

Yes. To keep our community safe, if a user violates our Terms or Guidelines we may take action on any account that we can determine belongs to the user. This could include accounts entered into the Account Switcher. The more severe the violation, the more likely we will take action across a user's accounts."

If you are suspended at all, that opens up other accounts for suspension as well. Those other accounts being easily identifiable via the account switcher. And if you did happen to get banned, all of those accounts would be gone in one fell swoop.

Discord does not ban based on IP address. Only limit account features.

This is not a troublesome request, nor is it difficult to understand, trust me. Take a look at Firefox. This feature is already available via containers.
