How is miner diff automatically determined?

If my average diff is X - what is my average hashrate?

To be more realistic, mechanisme : the pool/proxy give a miner a job with x difficulty. If the miner can’t solve it quick, the pool/proxy will lower x difficulty until the miner can solve it easily. And if too low diff for miner, it’s an increase of x diff.

So what is the time rate the proxy looks at and how does that equate to the diff a miner is given?

look at the config file although I must say sometimes it goes overboard with diff adjustements, but this might be related to the overall miners count
