Emergency stop button not powering off laser

Just had to use the snapmaker emergency stop button while using the laser module. It shut down the stepper motors but the laser beam remained on and unfortunately damaged my part and also exposed my eyes to the beam. I had to unplug the machine to get it to shut off

Also I set the laser power to 0.5% using the touchscreen before I started the program but then it automatically put the laser up to 50%? (The power setting I set in Luban)
