DVDRemux: Add SAR/PAR adjustment guide for subtitles
I was indicated by Zewia to add this to the guide last september but was too busy until now. Let me know if this is too wordy or if I got anything wrong.
cc: @LightArrowsEXE @emotion3459 If I can get a review from either of you, that would be nice.
I just saw https://github.com/Jaded-Encoding-Thaumaturgy/JET-guide/pull/20. Is there any reason this page should continue to exist? I'm happy to get rid of this page, after all we've never had the expertise to maintain it and were relying on JET folks to begin with.
I don't know if @McBaws was aware of it or not (atleast I wasn't) and so I wanted to mention that there's no point in wasting time and energy on this page if it's going to be superseded anyway.
I think it's still worthwhile to keep at least in some form, even if that just means linking to the JET guide once I'm done with that. This is still the more likely place people will check for this kind of guide, and the JET guide will have a bit of an encoder bent to it. The more I think about it, the less I'm inclined to write about subtitle remuxing either, as the JET guide is an encoding guide, and subs are out of scope for it.
Not covered by this segment is authoring subtitles yourself. When I started working on Komugi, I asked @arch1t3cht what he recommended I set the playres/layoutres to, and I was told to set it to the output DAR. In my case, it would be:
PlayResX: 704 PlayResY: 528 LayoutResX: 704 LayoutResY: 528I'm not entirely sure how much it matters to ignore authoring though, as it's not like anyone who reads this guide is likely to actually author them. But this may have implications for how to remux it. Arch can probably add some useful notes about that?
Also re: this, if this does end up being covered, a special mention should probably be made that currently this will break with mpv --no-config (or more specifically, blend-subtitles=no. This should be fixed once https://github.com/ietf-wg-cellar/matroska-specification/pull/947 gets accepted, after which I believe kasper wants to look at fixing that situation (as mpv is currently explicitly breaking the Mastroska spec).

Okay, thank you for the explanation. We'll keep this page then. Feel free to send a PR to link the two guides whenever you're done with it.
This has been open for far too long and there's been no movement on it, so I'm closing it.
