Auto-complete: Show Recent search terms & Popular search terms

Open FadedOut opened this issue 1 year ago • 3 comments

Hello,

  1. Would it be possible to add the ability to have the search terms the visitor entered in recently be shown in the auto-complete modal/dropdown?

  2. Would it also be possible to have the ability to show the popular search terms others are searching for to be shown in the auto-complete?

Thank you for your time

Hello @FadedOut,

  1. Yes, I guess a "Your more recent searches" section could be added to the auto-complete where the N more recent fulltext searches (I'm speaking here with #3059 not yet implemented in main) of the user could be pulled from the behavioral data

  2. I'm not a huge fan of that idea of a feature, if you mean "currently searching". I personnally would be a bit skittish if I realise the search terms I use on a site are "immediately" displayed to the other users, but that may be me.

On the core of the proposition, the popular search terms section does that, but based on the user current input. Displaying currently trending search terms in the past hour without any correlation to what the user is intending to search could generate positive feedback loops with adverse effects but I guess it would be each merchant's choice to enabled it or not.

@romainruaud do you have any opinion on this ?

On a technical side of things, both feature can be easily made if you feel like it by taking inspiration of what's done for the "Search Analytics Usage" data compilation.

Regards,

Hi @rbayet,

Sorry it's been busy here lately and I didn't see you had responded.

  1. I'm not entirely sure I follow but it sounds like it could work just as I am requesting.
  2. I agree maybe if it was immediately. I'm wondering if maybe it would be possible to have a delay of some time - maybe configured by hours? Then also maybe if there is a delay we can moderate the search terms if necessary.

"Displaying currently trending search terms in the past hour without any correlation to what the user is intending to search could..." This would probably be okay, the customer may not know what to search for, so the "currently trending terms" would help point them in some directions.

"On a technical side of things, both feature can be easily made if you feel like it by taking inspiration of what's done for the "Search Analytics Usage" data compilation." Unfortunately, I am not savvy enough with coding to be able to accomplish this. If I could I would definitely incorporate it by contributing.
