Using an own YouTube API key doesn't work

Open gitflo opened this issue 3 years ago • 10 comments

Hi folks,

I'm trying to use my own YouTube API key, but it repeatedly results in the error message "Beim Versuch, den eingegebenen API Key zu validieren, ist ein Fehler aufgetreten.". I've made sure that the API key is correct and working, by using the following command: curl 'https://www.googleapis.com/youtube/v3/search?part=snippet&type=video&key=[thekey]'

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior: (I have the German UI)

  1. Go to 'Einstellungen..Weitere..YouTube-API-Schlüssel'
  2. Paste the key from the clipboard
  3. See the error message

Expected behavior

  1. It should work :)
  2. If possible, give some more details to figure out what may be the issue

Setup:

  • Android version: 8.0.0
  • Is Your device rooted? - No
  • Do You use Tor or any VPN service with your device? - No
  • App source Fdroid
  • App Version 2.978
  • App Flavour OSS

Same here. Set up a new device, using the same API Key as on my old device (which works with the current version of SkyTube-Extra. So it looks like the validation is not correct... A curl test with my key works as gitflo described it

I can confirm that issue. This seems to happen on any device even with existing API keys, that already work on a simple test app that only shows a Youtube-View.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Install latest Skytube
  • Generate a new API Key in the Google Developer Console
  • Enter the API key
  • An error toast appears

I ran Skytube with attached debugger and found out, that this issue happens because a quota exceeded exception is always thrown, even when using a newly generated API Key.

Can confirm this is also happening for me.

I can also confirm this. Old and newly generated keys. Together with #999 this seems to render the app unusable, as far as I can see as a potential new user. [extra + f-droid version]

Is this the same experience with the GitHub version?

I'm also unable to use a key. I don't know if I'm doing it wrong. I've created a project in the Google Developers page and created 2 credentials. Tried using both and neither worked

Looks like the devs don't care. Changed to Youtube-Vanced. No problems since...

Cannot enter API key. Very big problem. "key cannot be verified"
