It is a very nice addition that an unlock code can be set in the app! Please do also consider the option to hide the message content (and/or sender) from the notification. Also please consider the option to encrypt the messages at rest with the user-set unlock code (the unlock code itself would be too weak for this purpose, but it would make a good salt hashed or bare?). However please avoid rolling your own crypto it this case, there are very nice crypto libraries!
