[Feature Request] Ability to select a specific phone number to text for contacts with multiple
Currently, if your contact have multiple phone numbers attached and you click on their name, it just defaults to one of the phone numbers.
It should let you choose which phone number to text to.
Another issue about this is that you don't know which phone number it is trying to text, since it doesn't indicate the number that it is going to send to (#400).
it should work already, what app version are you using? Do you see all contact phone numbers separated by a comma at the given person at New Conversation screen?
It also doesn't work (app version 5.15.0) on my phone (Android 12). Installed the app on another phone, and it's the same. However, on emulator the dialog is showing.
havent you set a number as the default in Simple Contacts Pro?
Yes, I forgot about this 😄 I unset default and now the dialog appears.
it works as expected then, will add some top menu item for forcing a number picker dialog in case it is needed
On 5.15.0
Do you see all contact phone numbers separated by a comma at the given person at New Conversation screen?
Yes, I do see a comma separating phone numbers. Issue is that when I click on the contact, it just goes directly to sending them a SMS. It doesn't let me choose which phone number to use, and I have no idea which phone number it's trying to use.
guess you also selected a number as the default one in Simple Contacts Pro? Just open it there and see which number has a star nearby.
I am actually not using Simple Contacts Pro. I'm using my default contacts app on both my Samsung Note 9 and OnePlus 3T. ~~There is no way to set a default number on those apps it seems.~~
Edit: Looks like I can set a default number actually. Though a number picker dialog in Simple SMS would be better, so that it doesn't have to depend on the default selected in the contacts app. Also, sometimes I want to text 2 separate phone numbers for the same contact, such as my co-worker's work phone number and personal phone number.
default means default, no matter what app you use... Thats the goal of it.
There are at least two distinct services: voice and SMS which both use the contacts, therefore an app can never know if "default" is specific for it's service or not.
If you use 99% voice then usually you set the default number to be the one you want to use for voice not for SMS. If an SMS app does not allow to select the number to send the SMS to then it misses an important functionality as contacts with multiple numbers are very common.
