Older messages not shown and all SMS/MMS load slowly

When scrolling back through conversations I can see that some texts are not shown. I recently formatted my phone and started from scratch. So it's not because there are a ton of messages. Using a different SMS/MMS app I can see those texts without any problems. None of my attempts to try and resolve this made any difference.

Steps to try and resolve:

• Rebooting the phone
• Restarting the app
• Clearing storage and cache
• Reinstalling the app

Also when opening the app to see texts from anyone. It often take ~5 seconds to load fully. I'm not sure if that would be related.
