Favorites cleared when moving files to recycle bin fills device storage

Simple Gallery 6.23.13 (F-Droid), Android 12, OnePlus 6

As device approaches storage capacity, you will want to free space. So i delete old photos and videos via Gallery with Recycle Bin enabled. This causes various issues, most notably it triggers a crash and most files are not moved to the bin (as expected - there is no storage for this). After this crash, it seems some app data is wiped, or at least just the favorites data. The files are of course still intact, but no longer starred.
