Photos are patheticly slow on Android 11
Hi!
I recently updated from LineageOS 17 to 18 (10 to 11) on my Google Pixel 1 and SimpleGallery is just... So goddamn slow.
I open the app, and I'm waiting ~2 seconds for album list. Another 2 seconds for thumbnails. Then i open my Camera folder (~5k of photos), and wait for literal 10 seconds for anythign to show up, then other 3 seconds for all thumbnails to load. Scrolling is simmilar experience (waiting for thumbs)
It's so bad that I switched to Google Photos in offline mode. Everything works as fast as I would expect from my Pixel (~0.5s of waiting for stuff)
what app version are you using? Did you get it from Google Play or some other source?
6.23.12, looks like I installed from Google Play and it's updating from there
try clearing app data from the device settings and reinstalling the app to reset everything
Also happening to me even on a fresh install. It takes ages to move files, Android keeps nagging me about requesting permission to do everything on almost every day, and to make matters worse, it rewrites mtime on move (what?).
If you're using the terrible Android API to move, can you use just rename and the lower level sane Linux stuff? Also, is there a way to request full RW permission on my entire SD card forever?
For the better All Files access you can use the foss app variant from https://github.com/SimpleMobileTools/Simple-Gallery/releases , gallery apps published on Google Play cannot have it.
Oh, really? I'm moving to them, thanks! Can these get published on F-Droid so we get automatic updates?
Ah, perfect. I had bought the Google Play Pro version and F-Droid showed it as installed; had to uninstall and install from F-Droid, and it asked for the full permission on first load. Thanks!

I don't understand what's the difference between them, but the version from F-Droid works perfectly on Xiaomi's MIUI 12.5.15 Android 11, while the version from Google store was crashing every few operations, sometimes even during plain loading photos (less than 200) on app startup. Either way, thanks a lot for the "foss" variant!
Apparently it's because of Google's braindamaged, ludicrously slow if not broken file API they made up in Android 11 for toy apps because they don't think their operating system is for anything serious. You are forbidden from using the real, proven, decent Unix file functions for software you publish in Google Play, but the Simple Gallery dev is nice enough to work twice as hard and release two versions, one with the gimped Google API for publishing in Google Play, and the one that works which Google Play won't allow, which you can get in F-Droid. (Support this developer!)

Yup, it should be the same.

Been having this issue for as long as i owned my 1 year old phone it is still stuck on 11 and its getting ridiculous how nothing can allow me to read and write. Is there ANYWAY to remove this god awful google feature. At this point my old relic of a sony ericson reads files faster.
