Flipping through webp images is slow

I noticed that flipping through webp images is often slow, after flipping it sometimes takes a little while to show the next image. jpg images don't show this problem. My webp images are reasonably-sized camera pics (~3 MiB each).

what app version are you using? Are they animating images, or static ones?

Latest version from F-Droid, and camera pics like I wrote, so they're static. They were taken with OpenCamera.

I'm also experiencing this problem. Webp images are loaded fast, but scroll/zoom noticeably slower than JPEG. The bigger the image, the worse the problem. On my Huawei P40 Lite, images 3000px wide (6Mpix) work reasonably fast, but 4000 (10,7Mpix) is already too slow. Even UI becomes choppy. HEIF doesn't exhibit this problem, but are slower to load (but that's understandable). All static images converted and resized from jpegs using imagemagick 7.0.11. App version 6.19.5 Pro from F-Droid.
