Strobe stops strobing after a while (power saver?)

Steps to reproduce

1. Open the Android power saving settings for this app, and choose "Unrestricted"
2. Open the app from the app icon (not widget).
3. Click on the strobe button (light starts flashing)
4. wait a few minutes

Expected behavior

The torch keeps flashing until the battery runs out, or some long period (>30 minutes) has elapsed.

Actual Behavior

The torch keeps flashing until the screen turns off. Then it might flash a few more times, but eventually stops. Either it turns off, or it remains on (non-strobing).

If I click the lock button to turn on the lockscreen (without unlocking it) then the strobing resumes, until a few seconds after the screen next turns itself off.
