Editing the name of a contact creates a new contact without deleting the old one

I end up with two contacts, one with the old name, one with the new one, both with the same phone number.

I'm on Version 6.21.1.

Hi, what contact source are you saving the contact to? I mean the last field at the contact details screen. Does it say your email, Phone, SIM or something like that?

The original one was on a SIM, the one with the changed name goes to a mail address.

Does creating a new contact on the SIM work well? Try restarting the device too to see if the contact survives it.

  1. I created a new "Test" contact on the SIM which seemed to work without a problem.
  2. Then I renamed it which did not spawn a new contact this time.
  3. Then I restarted the device. Both versions of the contact that started this issue survived the reboot. But the "Test" contact is back to its original name.
  4. I restarted a second time and now it stopped showing any SIM contacts, i.e. both the "Test" contact and the "old name" version of the original contact are not visible or gone?

Hi, I have same/similar problem with version 6.22.1, Android11/Lineage18.

Edited the name of a contact which is on device (which has phone number(mobil-tag)+birthday+signal connection). Suddenly there is a new contact with the new name on device (phone number(mobil-tag)+birthday) and the old one (with old name) with phone number(other-tag) and only signal connection in it.
