Multiple values in ORG field does not seem to be read

Hello:

I have the following problem with some of the contacts I created previously in the standard Contacts app of my phone:

  1. Create a contact using the standard Contacts app (I don't know if it's AOSP but I know that it sends data to Google…):

  1. Export it and import it in Simple Contacts, or synchronize the account:
BEGIN:VCARD
VERSION:2.1
N:Org;Test;;;
FN:Test Org
ORG:Org Company Ltd;IT Department
TITLE:Developer
END:VCARD
  1. The 2nd part of the ORG field is not displayed in Simple Contacts:

The standard Contacts app's behavior seems to be consistent with the vCard norm.

Thanks in advance for looking at this!

I make heavy use of things like the department field, and after the new wonderful UI rework, this is most of what's keeping me from using the app.

I think the ORG field is more broken than you have described. Today I transferred my contacts from my old Huawei contacts app (Exported as vcf) to my new phone. The ORG field isn't rendered anywhere in Simple-Contacts, however the same contacts in the standard Samsung app does show the ORG.

I don't even see a company/org option when making a new contact. I downloaded the app today off fdroid, version 6.22.2.

you might have it disabled in the app Settings -> Manage visible contact fields

Yes, that was it. Thanks.

I've noticed I'm not the first to fall for this issue. For example https://github.com/SimpleMobileTools/Simple-Contacts/issues/523#issuecomment-655417766 and #422. My thoughts are the same as rugk's and BlueDrink9's, this is a beginners trap. Most people would just install the app and not realise there's an FAQ. Even then, the FAQ/readme talks about the ability to disable/hide fields, but I don't think it actually lets the user know some are disabled by default.

I think some change should be made. I don't know the code base and how complex some solutions might be, but here's a few ideas that could be considered:

  • Change it so all fields are enabled by default
  • Add a pop-up when the app is first launched, recommending the user checks the settings and let them know some stuff is disabled
  • Add a button when making new contacts or viewing existing ones to "unhide fields"

Also thanks for making this app. I know my comment might come off as harsh, but I think this is an important issue. I was considering not using this app due to seemingly no Org support. So I want to make sure other users don't leave because of the same misunderstanding.

On further inspection, I checked the changelog file and noticed Add a button when making new contacts or viewing existing ones to "unhide fields" is already implemented. I initially missed that, I didn't expect it behind the 3 dots but I guess that makes sense.
