Contacts vanish on the phone for no apparent reason
On Havoc OS 2.9 contacts vanish from the phone at random intervals, usually withing couple of weeks for no apparent reason. Since there is no cloud sync, some apps accessing contacts result in contacts being lost instantly (contacts vanish upon installing BirthDayDroid and Zadarma applications for instance). However, this is not the case with Simple Contacts as it takes some time for contacts to disappear from the device and the stock contacts app. Not sure if that is related to Birthday field present in Simple Contacts (much to my delight) which is absent from stock contacts app.
I ended up replacing Simple Contacts with Open Contacts app which is using it's own database and had no problems ever since. I also noted that scrolling through contact list in Simple Contacts results in strange letter sequence to be displayed on the right side while stock contacts app displays correct letter for the page.
what contact source are you storing the given contacts to? I mean the last field at the contact details screen. Is it your email, Phone, or something else? If you want an own database of contacts not shared with any app just use the "Phone storage (not visible by other apps)" contact source.
Thank you very much for the explanation. I believe the problem with vanishing contacts is relevant to DEVICE source used by com.android.contacts system app. When I modify such contacts in the Simple Contacts app, all contacts eventually disappear at once from DEVICE database. This is especially true is Birthday field is applied which is absent from the system contacts app. As a workaround, I am to use "Phone storage (not visible by other apps)" contact source as per your suggestion.
All my contacts vanished over night too and It's falling importing my vcf file I had backed up
Edit: after trying the same file a few times with errors it randomly worked, but all the pictures assigned to contacts are missing. Idk if they never exported or what but wow that is annoying now I have no pictures ,-,
