Show own contact information at top of list
Some contact apps contain an entry at the top of the list with the phone's own contact information.
It would be great to be able to enable this feature in the options. I could see it being implemented as either (1) automatic scan of info present on the phone i.e. SIM/accounts, or (2) an option to select "me" from an existing contact on the phone.
Here's an example image found online:
+1 I think the own contact could even be hidden behind a menu setting.
@matt-snider, do you suggest the ability to designate a contact as oneself, or for this information to be separate? I am unable to acertain why the 2nd would be desirable.
@BEEDELLROKEJULIANLOCKHART I actually don't think (2) really makes sense. I don't know how other contact apps seem to do it but I would guess they just read it from the SIM card
@matt-snider, read what from the SIM card? Contacts? (Why would anybody store their contacts upon such a weak device with so little storage?)
@BEEDELLROKEJULIANLOCKHART I think you're misunderstanding the purpose of this ticket. Look at the above screenshot. The app from this screenshot has somehow recognized which telephone numbers the phone "owns" (i.e. can make calls from). Those numbers are then available under the automatically created "Me" contact. So the idea is just to support this within Simple Contacts.
I really have no idea how this works or whether it's trivial/hard/impossible. My guess was just that this came from reading the available SIM cards to find out which numbers can be called from, but this theory leaves out other kinds of numbers like SIP, so again, I don't know much about this.
@matt-snider, so it automatically designates a contact as the user based upon what it is able to ascertain from the SIM card?
I would guess so. Maybe there is a method in the Android standard library for this.
