Check alarms not repeating properly, sounding once per toggle

@tibbi, i think this matches with my recent obervation:

Nokia6, android 7.1.2, SC v4.2.0 -i set a repeating alarm, e.g. daily at 8am. -when it rings the next day i swipe it "off" to the right -the next repeating alarm does not sound the next day(s) until i toggle off and on the alarm in the app.

unfortunately i cannot remember how long this behavior already is there.

at least the widget keeps me pre-informed the next alarm will not ring :-)

so some clock app widgets show the next alarm well, it just doesnt ring when it gets there, right?

No. @tibbi allow me to clarify with an example.

-It is monday 19.00. Set a repeating alarm, e.g. 20.30 every day of the week. -After setting, the Widget shows the next alarm to be "Mon 20.30". -Lock the phone. -When the alarm rings fullscreen you swipe to the right to stop it.

BUG -The widget underline is blanked, e.g. no more next alarm expected. -When you open the app, the slider is still enabled but the alarm will not ring anymore.

EXPECTATION -The alarm should ring at "Tue 20.30" and daily thereafter until you toggle off the alarm in the app. -The widget should show the next occurrence "Tue 20.30"

IMPORTANT OBSERVATION: When playing around with the alarm to confirm the above sequence i found out something: The bug only shows up when i disable the alarm via the fullscreen alarm notification (i.e. phone was locked). If i do not lock the phone the alarm is presented via the Notification Bar. When i turn off the alarm there it behaves as expected for both widget and alarm.

alright thanks, that should help

Hello,

I can confirm this behaviour. My dayli alarm do not re-trigger unless I re-open the app on the alarm page.

I also have this problem that after the first alarm it is not reenabled for the next day. This makes the app completely useless and unreliable. :(

sadly all Clock apps are unreliable, thats the way Android works. The app isnt even really a priority for me now, as I just cannot make it work properly :/

tibbi avatar Jan 10 '19 12:01 tibbi

But why does the stock app work then?

NicoHood avatar Jan 10 '19 13:01 NicoHood

because stock apps have many exceptions related to battery optimizations and some background tasks. It is handled a lot more strictly at downloaded apps. You can check for example Google Clock reviews at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.deskclock&showAllReviews=true , how many people are complaining that alarms do not trigger reliably. If Google cannot make it work reliably, I dont think I can.

Sorry for my late question, but as I am facing the same problem on two phones: As the alarm/clock is working reliably for the first set alarm as well as when it is turned off and on again after each repitition (it does at least in my cases), I don't see how this (specificly) is a general Android issue not "just" a bug of the app?

hello ! for me this bug is resolved; Since a while the repeating alarms work as expected without the need to toggle the alarm off and on again (the "workaround").
