timer in background constantly repeating notification

When I set a countdown and put the app in the background I get a helpful notification telling me that it's still running. Unfortunately, this notification 'dings' up every second the timer's remaining time changes, including vibration and sound which makes it unusable. Moto g 5g, android 11, simple clock 5.6.1

This problem is less annoying for me but still makes the app unusable for timers and stopwatches. In my case, the notification updates every second and this keeps the phone's screen awake all the time.

Tested on Android 11, Simple Clock v5.9.2
